It is quite weird the attraction that rules and regulations have for Christians. Sadly over time, rules and regulations become more emotionally significant to some Christians than the death of the God-Man on the cross. Paul pointed this out to the Galatian Christians.
7 Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.
8 However at that time, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those which by nature are no gods.
10 You observe days and months and seasons and years.
11 I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you in vain—(Gal 4:7-11).
He asked them why they were returning to the rules and regulations of their heathen past. He asked them why they were becoming preoccupied with observing special days. The human heart loves things they can control but is uncomfortable with things they cannot like God the Holy Spirit. Grabbing a rule is easier than grabbing on to grace. Give yourself the test: are you more emotionally preoccupied with rules than the power of the Holy Spirit?
