God Sent You to Me!

“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28: 18-20

There was an old woman in her last days. She was sixty-five years old, completely blind, and her body lay ravaged by AIDS and TB.  She lived alone in a tiny, one-room “house” in the village of Masese.  In her desperation, she cried out to God: “Could you send someone to be my friend?”

Unbeknownst to me, the next day I set foot in the village. When I met her for the first time, I could hardly believe she was alive – she was so frail!  I hugged her, kissed her cheeks, and told her that Jesus loved her.  And she told me about her prayer.  With tears streaming down her face, she told me, “God sent you to me!”

We both wept for the goodness of God for that sacred moment.  There is no request that escapes Him – His ears and eyes and hands answer the deepest burdens of our souls. There is truly no greater joy and humility than knowing God used you to be the answer to someone else’s desperate plea.  He doesn’t need us; He invites us to be a part of His work here on earth.

Maybe there is someone you haven’t even met who is praying a prayer this moment, and God might invite you to be His hands and feet?  Ask the Lord to give you a heart like His, and to give you the courage to walk forward in daily obedience.  You never know how He might use you.
