Because he loves Me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation." Psalm 91:14-16, NIV
How long should we live? Does the Bible say anything about the length of our days? The Bible says a lot about the subject! Psalm 91 is a good place to start—I encourage you to read the whole thing!
God wants us to live until we are satisfied—satisfied that we have experienced His salvation, satisfied that we have fulfilled our purpose and satisfied that we have left a godly heritage and legacy. It will take a long life to be satisfied in all of these things! When we are satisfied—we can go be with the Lord! (I have often thought that I'll have to live to be 120 just to be satisfied and fulfill all the things the Lord has put in my heart!)
When we live in the secret place of the Most High—in fellowship with Him, under the Lordship of Jesus Christ—we can count on God's best—including a long, satisfying life. Because we love and obey the Lord, He promises to rescue, protect, answer, honor and remain with us! Jesus said that the true sign of loving God was to obey Him. So, you could say that when we walk in obedience to God and His Word—we can count on a long, blessed life and His grace and help to get us through any trials and tribulations along the way. This is a redundant theme in the Bible…
Isn't that what Proverbs 3:1-2 says? "My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store My commands in your heart, for they will give you a long and satisfying life."
Isn't that what Isaiah 1:19 tells us? "If you are willing and obedient you shall eat the good of the land."
Isn't that what Ephesians 6:1-3 promises? "Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. 'Honor your father and mother.' This is the first of the Ten Commandments that ends with a promise. And this is the promise: If you honor your father and mother, 'you will live a long life, full of blessing.'"
Today, be encouraged—God wants to bless you with a long, satisfied life as you live in the secret place of the Most High and set your love on Him!
Say This: "Father, help me live in that secret place—in close fellowship with You. I love You Lord and it's my heart's desire to live a life pleasing to You. I thank You for a long and satisfying life where I enjoy the benefits of the great salvation You provided...where I fulfill the purpose for which You created me and where I leave a godly heritage and legacy that makes an eternal difference. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
