"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! … For there the LORD commanded the blessing — Life forevermore." Psalm 133, NKJV
How would you like to be in the place where God commands His blessing? He has commanded His blessing in the place of unity! How good and pleasant to be in a marriage, family, company, neighborhood or church free from strife and discord – to be in a place where there is unity, harmony and agreement. The Lord is particularly interested in seeing unity among the "brethren" – believers and churches.
God hates discord! He commands His blessing where there is unity. Unfortunately, some people enjoy being disagreeable, contrary, argumentative and critical. We live in a culture that thrives on controversy, accusation, competition, jealousy and envy and all of these things breed division and disunity – God cannot command His blessing "there." In the church world, political arena, media and the arts, we need more peacemakers, unifiers and lovers who won't compromise on God's values.
Being in unity doesn't mean we need to become "vanilla" or "spineless" in our core values, beliefs or doctrine; it means we choose to walk in love and avoid strife. The Bible says, "…love believes the best…" so, let's choose love…unity…and peace in and through Jesus.
Today… are you in strife, division, disunity or competition with anyone? Do you need to make any "unity" adjustments so that the Lord can command His blessing upon your life?
Say This: "Father, I want to walk in a way that is congruent with Your Word. I want Your commanded blessing in my life. I ask You to forgive me for __________ (list any situations where you have not walked in love and harmony) and I will do what is necessary to make it right. I choose to love others – especially the 'brethren' – and I will walk in agreement and unity. In Jesus' Name. Amen."
