Many crops take a long time to bear fruit, but they are growing just as certainly as the sun will rise in the morning.

Galatians 6:8 (NIV®)                 

The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

 

This verse describes a very simple principle: Living to please your sinful nature results in destruction, and living to please the Spirit of God results in eternal life. It’s described in an organic way—you sow and you reap. That organic process can be deceptive because it is not immediate. Sometimes when you participate in ungodly things and there is no immediate response from God, you think, “There was no consequence! I’m free! I should do more of this.” And sometimes when you cooperate with the Spirit of God and do what you know is right, but you don’t see an immediate result, you think, “Why did I bother if there’s no reward for good behavior?” (How is it when it’s ungodly behavior you celebrate that there’s no consequence, and when it’s godly behavior you’re angry that there’s no consequence?) The truth is that both harvests are coming. Many crops will take a long time to bear fruit, but they are growing just as certainly as the sun will rise in the morning. I have seen the destructive nature of ungodly harvests and the life-giving nature of godly harvests. Sowing to please the Spirit will bring you blessings in your own heart, in your family, in your business, as brothers and sisters in Christ, as citizens—in every aspect of your life. 

 

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I want to sow in a way that reaps a harvest that is pleasing to You. I pray that I will always choose You in my heart, my marriage, my resources and my time. I thank You for the harvest of life and blessing You have promised. In Jesus’ name, amen.
