Overview

The blues… depression… despair. This is the presence of darkness in your life that makes you feel separated from God and alone in a time of desperation.

Depression can stem from grief, challenging situations, spiritual dryness, or physiological conditions—but no matter the reason, the feelings of apathy and despair are real. These feelings are also the opposite of what God wants for you.

If you are living life under the shadows of depression, you will find wisdom and direction in the content we’ve gathered for this Growth Plan. In each post, you will learn how to overcome depression so that you can reclaim God’s joy in your life.

Study Guide
Lesson 1
Trust in God's Character

Depression is a darkness that can plague anyone at any time. It is no respecter of persons—even Biblical heroes fell into depression.

26 mins
Lesson 2
Look for the Light

Sometimes depression is physical, sometimes it is physiological, and sometimes it is spiritual. It is not a sin but a spiritual darkness.

7 mins
Lesson 3
Deal with the Emotions

Today's post tackles the tough question about whether a Christian should take medication to help depression and how to draw God into the equation.

22 mins
Lesson 4
Fix Your Hope on God

You will lose hope if your eyes are anywhere but on the Lord. When your eyes are fixed on Him, you will see His goodness.

5 mins
Lesson 5
Trust in His Grace

Sometimes God allows a season of depression in our lives—because in our despair, we will finally turn to Him. In times of hardship, we learn to cling to God more tightly.

5 mins
Lesson 6
Praise Away the Darkness

Praise can help chase away the darkness because the enemy can’t stand hearing praises for God. Praise can also help you focus on the goodness and character of God instead of on the pain and hardships of life.

4 mins
Lesson 7
Anticipate the Challenges

Understand that you may still have times when God’s light is shut out and the darkness may try to regain its hold on your life. Don’t fall back into despair!
