2 Chronicles 29:1-2 (NIV®)
Hezekiah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-nine years. His mother’s name was Abijah daughter of Zechariah. He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father David had done.
When you think about your life and what you are striving for, what you hope to achieve, what do you want to be said of you when your days are done and you have stepped into eternity? Do you want people to talk about your bank balance? Awards won? Power gained? Pleasure experienced? None of those things are innately evil, but perhaps the best description of a life lived well is that you “did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.” This is an outcome that will not happen on its own—if we don’t consciously intend to do it, it’s improbable that it will happen. It requires a choice on your part and mine. But it’s not complicated. In the context of your marriage, you’ve got a good idea of what’s “right in the eyes of the Lord.” Do that. In the context of business, you know pretty much what’s “right in the eyes of the Lord.” Do that. When it’s time to pay your taxes, do what’s “right in the eyes of the Lord.” If you will take segments of your life and let that statement guide you, you will be amazed at the momentum toward the Lord you will experience.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I want to be known as a man who did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. Guide my every decision and conversation so that when my days in the earth are done there will be no doubt that my highest aim was to bring glory to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
