Keep in Step with the Spirit

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. Galatians 5:25-26

If you are a Christian, there was a time before your relationship with Christ that you thought you called the shots. And most of your decisions were based on what the world said you should desire.

Then came your encounter with Christ. And the selfish, destructive nature that once controlled you was replaced by the righteous freedom that Christ offers. With this gift of salvation, he placed the Holy Spirit in your heart. Because of that, the foundation for making decisions has been redesigned. But that doesn’t mean you are perfect.

As you strive to keep in step with Christ, you will face obstacles. Conceit and envy are common attributes of our human nature. But now, when those attitudes show up, you have the power to turn away from them. Turn to the Spirit and ask him to help you stop temptation in its tracks. And continue to keep in step with the Spirit every day.

Prayer:

Dear God, help me to keep in step with you and your desires for my life. Help me conquer the destructive sins of envy and conceit when they try to creep into my life. And help me to live within your righteous freedom rather than in the destructive nature of this world. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
