Rooted in God’s Love

This is the reason I kneel in the presence of the Father from whom all the family in heaven and on earth receives its name. I’m asking God to give you a gift from the wealth of his glory. I pray that he would give you inner strength and power through his Spirit. Then Christ will live in you through faith. I also pray that love may be the ground into which you sink your roots and on which you have your foundation” (Ephesians 3:14-17).

When we lived in California, we planted some trees in the fall. They were small, and the roots hadn’t really gotten established. The first time the winter rains and wind came, the trees started to fall over. We ran outside in the middle of a downpour to tie the trees to stakes and fences to help them stand up tall and straight.

You are still small too, and God wants you to be planted in his love. Putting your roots in his love helps you grow up tall and strong. Then when temptation and troubles and sadness come, you won’t fall over. Instead, you can weather any storm because you are rooted in him.

Dear God, I kneel before you as your child. You have so much glory and power and strength that you gladly share it with us—because you always have more. With the Holy Spirit living inside of us, please give us his strength and power to live lives of faith, to always show that we believe in Jesus. Help us plant ourselves firmly in your love so we aren’t weak and fall over when problems come. Amen.
