Shower Stall

Linda’s family has worked hard to create clean and healthy living environment.

“We planted flowers to beautify the environment. We put in a pit latrine,” says Christine. “We have a bath shelter—a private place to shower.” There is a dish rack for plates and a place for children to wash their hands.

“Now the children no longer get diarrhea because of our sanitation,” says Christine. Her first child, Centrine, got diarrhea. It was really bad. They took her to a health center, then to the Red Cross, and finally a private clinic.

“She spent four days there. I was concerned; I thought she could die,” Christine says.

Now their village has trained health team workers who are able to diagnose and treat diarrhea, pneumonia, and malaria in children under the age of 5. They also private health care and referrals for pregnant women.
